What are the qualifications for the Before Broadway staff?

All Camp Broadway staff members go through a rigorous interview and training process. Directors, Choreographers and Musical Directors must have Broadway and/or National Tour credits. Rehearsal assistants, line producers and the administrative staff also have a wide range of professional credits on Broadway and/or have worked in leadership positions throughout the professional performing arts industry.

Do I have to audition for this event?

Yes. Before Broadway is designed for pre-professional performers, ages 18-22 to have the experience of an intensive rehearsal process that culminates in a public performance at a well-known venue.

What are the prerequisites to participate in this event?

To be cast in Before Broadway, students must have graduated from high school and be enrolled in or completed a formal musical theatre training program with the intention to pursue a career as a professional performer. This event is not intended for those with a casual interest in performing or as secondary to another career path.

When is the deadline to submit my online audition for this event?

Audition videos must be submitted no later than Monday, December 15 to be considered for the January 2019 program.

How many performers participate in Before Broadway?

Before Broadway is limited to 15 cast members.

Where do rehearsals for Before Broadway take place?

Please note the Camp Broadway administrative offices are not housed in any of these locations. Rehearsals will take place at:

  • Pearl Studios located on the 12th floor of 500 8th Avenue

What is the rehearsal and performance schedule?

Before Broadway is a professional rehearsal process that culminates in a showcase performance for a paid audience. Cast members must be present for all rehearsals.  There are no excused absences. The program schedule is as follows:

Friday, January 25       9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Saturday, January 26 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday, January 27     9:00 am – 4:00 pm
54 Below Showcase    7:30 pm

If cast, when will I receive a program details?

Visit www.BeforeBroadway.com regularly for program updates. You will receive everything you need to participate via email no later two weeks prior to the start of the program. The event confirmation will include a link to ‘The Callboard’ that features schedule and rehearsal locations, and more.

Is daily, full attendance mandatory?

Yes. As this is a professional rehearsal process and showcase performance, there are no excused absences.

What should I wear at rehearsals

Comfortable non-constricting clothes should be worn for rehearsal. Jeans are not permitted. No street clothing or bare legs, please. Clothing should be comfortable and easy to move in, but not too loose-fitting.

Do I need dance shoes?

Footwear you typically wear for theater rehearsals is appropriate. No flip-flops, sandals or platform shoes are permitted. We suggest that ensemble members wear the same shoes to rehearsal that they will wear during the performance (requirements will be available on the Callboard.

Do I need to bring lunch?

No. Lunch, healthy snacks and plenty of water will be provided. Any medical or dietary needs will be accommodated. You will have an opportunity to indicate this on the registration form.

What should I wear for the showcase performance?

Ensemble members will be asked to bring simple costume pieces to wear in the showcase. These are items you will likely already own such as knee-length black dress for the ladies and black dress pants and button-down shirt for the gentlemen. This information will also be available on the Callboard with example photos and suggested items to purchase should you not own appropriate attire.

How do I purchase tickets to the showcase at 54 Below?

Camp Broadway does not directly manage ticketing for this event, family and friends wishing to purchase tickets may do so directly through the box office at 54 Below. A link will be provided on “The Callboard.”

Do you provide housing?

No. Neither travel nor accommodations are included in the fee for this event. However, we do have partnerships with area hotels. Check your program’s Callboard for any special offers that may be available during your program.

What is your cancellation policy?

Due to the nature of this program, the fee is non-refundable if the ensemble member withdraws. If a session is cancelled by Camp Broadway, the full fee will be refunded.
